Compliance calendar for a US-owned Indian company

CA Utsav Dogra, Chartered Accountant, ICAI M. No. 542375 · Updated

In brief

The Indian company files every month whether or not it trades: withholding tax by the 7th, GST on the 11th and 20th, provident fund by the 15th. Each year brings the AGM by 30 September, company filings after it, the tax return and the FLA return by 15 July, all to be aligned with a US parent closing on 31 December.

What is specific to US companies

Most US parents report on a calendar year, so the Indian January–March quarter falls in a different Indian year. US deadlines that depend on Indian numbers include Form 5471 with the parent's return and FBAR, due 15 April with an automatic extension to 15 October.

Questions

Does a company with no revenue still file?

Yes. Company-law, tax, GST (if registered) and FEMA filings continue regardless of revenue.

General information as at 5 November 2026, not advice for a particular case. Indian and US rules change often; confirm the current position before acting. US law points should be confirmed with a US adviser.
